31 May 2008 A gorgeous sunny day

A far better morning with early sunshine and the promise of a warm day for once, which we decided to maximise by heading inland. We dropped down into May Beck first, then down the steep grade into Littlebeck and up the steep hill to join the Whitby to Pickering road at Sleights.
We spent the morning meandering around the moors
and I took a couple of shots of the strange standing stones with a square hole that seem to appear here and there, I wonder what they signify?

It was one of those days when you didn't need a destination, it was sufficient to potter along and enjoy the day.
At one point we had a walk in one of the forests and spotted this plant, which Pat's flower guide identified as "Bugle" sure is a strange name for a plant!
The afternoon was spent relaxing in the caravan, and in the evening we drove down the lane leading to Ravenscar, and over the hilltop down as far as the bridge over the old long lost railway line before turning and making for Scarbough and a drive along the sea front.

Here is a wider view and then one version on the Fuji and another on the Nikon

We were surprised that Scarborough was still busy with plenty of people around, including some especially hardy ones who were still in the sea!
