For a change we are spending a weekend on the coast with Yorkshire Freeway Caravanning Club, in Flamborough, and just to give a feel of the place here are a couple of photos, first the old lighthouse, Charles II gave Sir John Clayton permission to build the first one and it was constructed in 1674, but he went bankrupt before it was lit.
This is the second and current lighhouse, nearer to the sea.
It was built by a local firm John Matson of Bridlington in 1806 and cost about £8,000. And it was first lit on 1st December 1806.
Apparently it wa originally a bit shorter in height and then was rebuilt, making it taller in 1925
